3

On December 20th Molly Kate turned three years old! It's so hard to believe she is 3. We had a very small celebration with a HUGE cake. Molly got a lot of princess presents. She was thrilled when we sang Happy Birthday so we did it about four times. It goes without saying that Molly Meeker is a huge blessing to many people. God brought her to the family at just the right time. The cake was made by Melinda (one of Bob's employees who is studying to be a pastry chef). Every time Molly would come into Red Robin Melinda would ask her what she wanted her cake to look like. Melinda is planning to open a bakery when she graduates. We will keep you posted. Thank you Melinda!!!!!

Gail's Party

My Aunt Gail (in purple) turned 50 this weekend. She is by far the kindest and sweetest LADY you could ever meet. Uncle Pat, Girlfriend Lan, Aunt Gail and Uncle David.

Brother in law Nick and sister Katy. I was squished in the middle!

Molly at the party.

David and Molly. David is my Dad's youngest brother and looks the most like him. I was looking at him and Molly from behind and it seemed like my Dad was holding Molly. Sweet.

Adoption note-no new news! We are waiting to get the full information on sweet pumpkin. We have to get it from our case worker and she is out of town. No one should be doing anything but trying to get him to us (as fast as possible ;)

Tomorrow

Tomorrow at 1:00 I will chat with the case worker in MI. She is going to give me all the details about Cutie Pie so we can make an informed decision about adopting him. She will also give me the details of what comes next. I'm so excited!

It's not 100 out today so I feel like it's already fall. Anyone else? Here is Molly 2 years ago at the arboretum. PUMPKIN PIE!

Home Study Update

Eileen visted with us yesterday for another four hours. She said the draft of our home study will be complete by next week. She then sends it to the agency and they proof it. Basically this is how I understand it to work....if she approves us, then the agency considers us for possible approval, after their approval all the papers go to Korea and US immigration and that is where the final approval will happen. The final draft of the home study will be finished in three weeks. This is when we should have a referral.

It's so boring to post without pictures!!!!! Jeans day tomorrow and running shoes. I need those shoes because one of my new babies is a runner (teacher terms for tries to escape school). It's all confidential so I can't go into it but this is by far the most difficult student I have ever had. Spent his first 3 out of 4 days at school in ISS (in school suspension).

An email update!

Hi Amy:

I am so happy that things are moving ahead for you and your family as it applies to the homestudy. I have asked Tammy to send you a formal application. If you fill that out and send it back, I will then be able to talk with you about the little boy on Rainbow Kids that you originally contacted us about. I am still looking for the right family for him and I'd like you to have information about him so that you and your husband can be a bit more informed about his issues.

Also, once you send back the formal I can contact your worker to find out how the study is going and to discuss this little guy with her as well.

The formal application needs to be sent in with a $500 check, but we will hold the check until your study is finished and you get closer to moving a head with a specific child.

I hope this works for you. Let me know if you have any questions.

Tutu Tuesday

During the first week of the month at dance the girls can all wear tutus. We don't have one! I thought this would give you guys a good laugh. I snapped some photos from the dance shop today. If it's not cleats or shin guards I don't know what to do with it. Going girlie for my girlie girl. I'll post pics tomorrow of M at dance class in her new tutu and tights :) I'm going to post adoption updates in blue from now on. So if your just stopping by for that you can skip all the other junk. Blue for our baby boy! I know....my paper work isn't finished so I can't fall in love. Too late for that!

I talked to Tammy at AIAA today. She is the head of the Korea program. My main question, how long does it take to get a referral after a home study is finished. A referral is when you are matched with a baby. For "waiting children" as soon as the home study is finished you talk with the waiting child case worker. She then determines if there is a baby you qualify for or that qualifies for you. SO, now I just need to know how long it takes for Eileen to finish the home study. For those who are curious, after a match is made and accepted travel is 3-4 months from that date. Like I said, GO EILEEN!

We picked lavender.

Stacks of tutus.

Look what Molly did on the way home while I was driving. At least it was yellow!

Caught Reading

I caught Molly with my book and glasses on today. The Kindergarten teacher in me loves this! I've been a good reading model, teee heee heee!

Awesome Movie!

We saw Nanny McPhee Returns for the second time last night. It is the best movie I have seen in a long time. Molly was cracking up at the piglets who performed water ballet. Loved it!

My Boy

So we decided to start talking to Molly about possibly having another child in our home. What do you say? I told her a boy or girl was going to come live with us and share her room. Molly says "Mom this kid play with me?" Then on the way to church today she says, "Mom where is my boy?" LOL!

If you want to see the baby we are interested in go to http://www.rainbowkids.com/ You will have to register to look at the photo listings. Make your profile for children under two and Asian. This will narrow the search. His ID number is 102704. I know this is a lot of steps but it's not for me to post his pics.

Adoption Blogging....START

Hi Friends,

I was going to start a new blog for our adoption process. For my sanity on this slow computer I am going to blog everything on the same blog. It's been my personal hope to adopt an Asian child since I was about 23 years old. When I met Bob he was open to adoption as well. In June of 2010 I was looking at the Rainbow Kids website. It's an adoption info site that has waiting children with photo listings. I viewed a profile of this precious baby boy and I felt like he was going to be my son. You are never supposed to do this because obviously other families can be in the process of adopting the children. "Don't fall in love until your paper work is finished"

Long story short, his picture spurred us on to start the adoption paper work. In the back of my mind I have always known that our paper work could be for another child. I'll try to make this part short. He is listed with an agency in Michigan. It's easier to adopt a child through a local agency for obvious reasons. However, he was on our hearts and so we felt lead to try all options for him. The first problem we ran into was that we could not find someone here who would qualify for a Michigan home study. We were searching for about 2 months. The director of AIAA (the agency in Michigan) was out of the country and so we were a little on our own. We finally found Dillion (in Oklahoma) who could do our home study for $4,000. I am including all the money information just in case someone out there is curious about adoption as well. $4,000 is a lot considering that is on top of $23,000 and travel expenses.

There was another lady we chatted with named Eileen. She had done studies for AIAA in the past but wasn't on their list at the time. She owns her own smaller agency and has two adopted Korean children of her own. About 3 weeks ago she called and let us know that she was approved to do our home study as well. We weren't too far into the process with Dillion so we switched. Lucky for us her home study cost is $1,500. Since we are not rich $2,500 savings is great :) Just FYI you don't have to be rich to adopt.

She came to our house and visited with us for four hours yesterday. It was very fun and comfortable. She is coming back on the 15th to interview us again. Another long story short, I think it takes 4-6 weeks for a home study to be complete. Eileen said that she would call AIAA and let them know she didn't see any reason why we wouldn't be a great family for out little guy. With waiting children you can sometimes get a referral before your study is finished. Waiting children are children with some kind of problem that makes them "not perfect". It can be small like birth marks or big like down syndrome. The range is huge. So that means you aren't waiting for a perfect child to be born. The child is born and waiting on a family. This means the referral process is much shorter. Our little guy has a heart condition. That was part of the reason I fell in love with him (long story, I'll save for another post).

From now on I'll try to blog weekly so you can know where we are at. It may be small happenings but I want whatever child we adopt to have a record of how he or she came to be part of our family. Below are some pictures of Molly. She helped me clean the night before the home study. We were listening to the Jackson Five and dancing at the same time.

I know "baby boy" is in God's hands. If God has intended him to be part of our family then it will happen. I'm thankful either way because his little face helped us get started.
