Birthday Party

So many people. So much love. I didn't get around to taking many photos. The B-day party was planned by Aunt Susie and Meghan. Meghan chose the duck theme which was so cute since Timmy loves his stuffed duck from Korea. They put so much thought and love into planning the party. When I walked in I was overwhelmed, in a good way. My Aunt even had a friend from work come to sing Happy Birthday in Korean. Tears..... I think children, adopted children especially bring out people's hearts. We love love love our boy and are so humbled that God brought him into our family.

Dance Pictures

Recital photos tonight. After we got home I showed Molly the pictures. When she saw the second picture in this post she said, who is that girl? I told her it was Molly Kate Meeker and she never believed me. The last picture is of Molly with the class helper, Miss Melissa. All the girls love Melissa!

After posting these pictures I was visiting my favorite adoption blog and found some heart breaking news. Little Esther went home to be with Jesus. Her adoptive parents were working so hard to bring her here to the U. S. Esther had a heart condition and was set to be adopted by the Leist family at www.nihaoyall.com. Say some prayers for the Leist family.

Adoption is LOVE

During bath time last night Molly said (in a cheerleader voice), Hey Mom, Timmy is my brother. Whoooooooooooooooooooo! I turned around from cleaning the sink and they were hugging and dying laughing. Little spaghetti faces!

Boys

My Guy! Here is a picture of him from his 1st B-day with us. Turned 2 today! Lovie Bear!

Eli-Held him the day after he was born. Ladies man (not by choice, all of his friends are girls because his mom's friends all have girls). Smart beyond belief, sensitive and affectionate! Pretty good at bounce house karate :) Eli, I'll win next time!

Liam-Little Minx! I was at this guys birth. I regret that I haven't spent lots of time with him since then. However, he's hilarious and gonna give his momma a run for her money. The guy loves trash and trash trucks. His enthusiasm about the trash is contagious!

Pierce-My first love! Probably spent every Saturday with him from the time he was born until 3 or 4 years old. LOVE THIS BOY! Held him the day he was born. Heart of gold and S-M-A-R-T!

Honestly, before Molly I didn't think I could love a son as much as a daughter. Even at her sonogram I was hoping....Girl....please Lord you know how I feel about boys. Maybe it was may fear of men in general or how boys are typically more difficult in the classroom or my negative dating experiences or the abandonment I felt with my dad. Who knows???? Then Timmy came along and my heart changed. Even before I met him I knew I could be just as in love with a son as I was a daughter. AND I AM! I can't help but think that some of my favorite boys were changing my heart long before I met Timmy.

Mother's Day-By Amy Monroe

This was written by Amy Monroe from our church. She and her husband have 4 adopted children. She wrote this last week after Mother's Day. Amy always helps me to see and experience new sides of adoption. The prayer touched my heart in a profound way as well.

Tears flowed down my face today as I sat in church listening to our pastor read the most sincere and sensitive prayer I’ve ever heard offered on Mother’s Day. He started his prayer with thanksgiving to God for welcoming us into His family through adoption by the miracle of grace. He then continued by praying for all mothers, specifically mentioning adoptive moms, those whose heart longs to become a mother but are experiencing infertility and those who don’t know their biological mothers.

As I sat between my two oldest sons, each holding my hands, I couldn’t help but think about the mothers who gave them life and changed ours forever. These women, whom we hardly know, have never been more real and more close to my heart than they were today as I thought about their love, courage and selflessness. I wondered if they were thinking of their boys today. I wondered if their tears flowed and if their hearts ached. And I wondered if I might ever be able to fully express the depth of my love and gratitude for them, at least this side of heaven.

As the pastor prayed and as we continued to worship, I spent a few moments lifting each of them up in prayer. I prayed that our God of all comfort would continue to heal their hearts and give them a peace that assured them their children are deeply loved, and so are they.

For some adoptive moms it isn’t easy “sharing” Mother’s Day with our children’s birthmothers. But far from taking away from my role as my children’s mother, including their birthmothers in my thoughts and prayers on this special day somehow makes it and me more complete. I am my children’s mother and I forever will be. But as I was reminded recently by my six-year-old daughter, I am not the only mother they have, and if they have room in their hearts for more than one mother then so must I.

I may not be my children’s only mother but I am the only one they can hug, give a homemade card to and say “I love you” to on this special day. So I will choose on this day (and in the days that follow) to pray and even let me heart ache a little for their other mothers. I am grateful for the gift I have been given — the privilege of loving and caring for the children God has blessed me with. My gain could not exist but for the loss that is always a part of adoption. So while this special day is about me, it is not “all” about me. I share it with a grateful heart with the women who allowed me to celebrate this special day with the children that we love.

Here is the prayer that Pastor Andy McQuitty prayed on Mother’s Day 2011:

“Gracious God,

We thank you for adopting us into your family through the miracle of your grace, and for calling us to be brothers and sisters to each other.

Today, loving God, we pray for our mothers:

  • who cared for us when we were helpless
  • who comforted us when we were hurt
  • whose love and care we often took for granted.

Today we pray for:

  • those who are grieving the loss of their mother,
  • those who never knew their biological mother, and now yearn for her
  • those who have experienced the wonder of an adopted mother’s love
  • those who long to be mothers but are struggling with infertility or waiting on adoption,
  • and the families separated by war or conflict.
  • Lord, comfort them and give them peace and hope.

Keep us united with you and with each other, so that we can be and become all that we are meant to be. Amen.”

4 Years Today

Bitter Sweet. On May 12th, 5 years ago we got engaged. We also found out that my Dad was severely depressed an hour after we were engaged. He visited the hospital for depression on this day and was sent directly home. On May 12th, 4 years ago we were married in a back yard ceremony thrown by friends and friends. My Dad was no longer with us and my Mom was in recovery for PTSD at the Meadows in Arizona. It's baffles me how sorrow and happiness can be so closely intertwined. Today, I'm thankful that my grief has lessened and this is a celebration day. Happy anniversary Bob Meeker!

The House

Our house had a green roof and orange brick, never my favorite! It was 1600 square feet and now it's almost 3000. Crazy construction is over and now totally worth it. My Mom is thrilled. This is the first time she got to pick out everything! Here is a picture of the outside redo, the sun room updates, and some photos of the Queen's Suite a.k.a. Mimi's house!
